Fluoride is not exactly the greatest thing since sliced bread. Like a lot of things we grew up thinking we ‘needed’, it turns out, we really don’t. In fact, in recent years, a lot of people have been sounding the alarm about the dangers of fluoride in toothpaste and our water.
Excess fluoride exposure may contribute to increased pineal gland calcification and subsequent decreases in nighttime melatonin production that contribute to sleep disturbances. It can also cause dental fluorosis—a discoloration of teeth, usually with opaque white marks, lines, or mottled enamel and poor mineralization. Over exposure is the issue and the thing is, there is no way to measure how much fluoride we are exposed to between toothpaste, drinking water and naturally occurring fluoride in foods. Let’s not forget it’s a neurotoxin in high dose.
I mean, there’s a reason why there’s such thing as fluoride free toothpaste for kids.
So what are we suppose to use? I haven’t tried many natural toothpastes because I’ve used the OnGuard toothpaste now for 9 years and I love it! I’m someone who was told I had soft teeth and my saliva was acidic so that’s why I had lots of cavities as a child and teenager. I was using lots of Fluoride then….The only teeth issues I’ve been dealing with in the last decade, are from old fillings from those days….figures!
One of the main ingredient in the OnGuard Toothpaste is Hydroxyapatite
Hydroxyapatite is non-toxic and biocompatible, you don’t have to worry about your child swallowing it. Unlike fluoride products, there’s no risk associated with overexposure, so it’s actually an ideal option for kids, pregnant women, and people who are susceptible to fluorosis.
To keep your teeth healthy and free of cavities and enamel erosion, the enamel needs to be constantly built back up or remineralized. The remineralization of tooth enamel is the primary benefit of hydroxyapatite. Hydroxyapatite helps make your teeth feel stronger, smoother, healthier, and less sensitive to hot or cold.
To add to that, doTERRA On Guard blends Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary essential oils to provide an extra cleaning boost. Additional essential oils like Peppermint and Wintergreen, as well as the natural sweetener xylitol, give this toothpaste a unique cinnamon-mint flavor that leaves your breath—and toothbrush!—fresh and clean all day.
I understand that companies like P&G and Colgate have had strong marketing for years, but remember, it’s just strong marketing and lobbying. It doesn’t mean it’s the best for you!
In my mind, this is a very simple swap and important step in not only reducing neurotoxins exposure but also using something that’s actually going to help you have better oral health! OnGuard Toothpaste for the win!
