Head tension can be caused by a number of things, so when it comes to finding relief it’s possible that how you find relief will be different for someone else. Most of the time essential oils that are anti–inflammatory and analgesic can offer great relief.

Essential oils can reduce inflammation by regulating the release of inflammatory cytokines involved in multiple signaling pathways. A 2020 study suggested that essential oils are expected to be developed as anti-inflammatory drugs, although that cannot be done unless they are the synthetic version. Did you know that most drugs are inspired from compounds found in plants?  It’s great to know the aforementioned study found essential oils so effective that they thought they could be drugs but we’ll keep the natural compounds thank you very much 😉  Not everything should be made in a lab!

There are several essential oils that have anti inflammatory compounds and can be very helpful to reduce head tension. Peppermint, Lavender, Frankincense, Copaiba and Deep Blue Blend are the ones I tend to use the most.

They also have analgesic properties. When applied topically, such as through a massage or diluted in a carrier oil and applied to the temples, forehead, or neck, these oils provide localized relief and reduce head tension.

This blend is a power house.  Apply to temples, back of the neck and forehead (away from eyes).  You can reapply as often as needed.

Another thing I find very effective is applying the Deep Blue Rub on the back of my neck which really helps with muscle soreness.  Also a drop of Frankincense on the roof of my mouth applied with the thumb and hold for 20 sec (it’s a pressure point for head tension)

Enjoy the relief!
