When I started using essential oils, I was most impressed with the power Peppermint and the Easy Air blend (respiratory blend that contains Peppermint and Eucalyptus and other oils) had on opening airways.  I had been suffering from congestion due to allergies for 20 years…and always only partially breathed through my nose at best.  In a few seconds after using the peppermint oil on the roof of my mouth or breathing in the Easy Air blend for a few seconds, my nose was cleared!  What an incredible gift.  I couldn’t use decongestant medication, they had a strange effect on my sinuses and made me extremely drowsy.  No need to worry about that anymore!

Before you think to yourself that you’ve tried Peppermint and it didn’t have that effect, if you haven’t tried the doTERRA Peppermint, you haven’t had the best experience!  This peppermint oil is extremely potent and unadulterated.  The menthol constituent in peppermint works as a decongestant, shrinking swollen membranes in the nose and making it easier to breathe.

This is actually one of the biggest reasons why Peppermint Oil May Enhance Athletic Performance.

The results of several studies suggested that peppermint essential oil induced significant changes in air flow, power, and time to exhaustion due to better breathing.

What about more chronic conditions that affect airways?  Can essential oils help?  There are several studies that show it does have a positive impact.  Since a lot of the chronic conditions affecting airways have to do with inflammation and considering the anti-inflammatory nature of essential oils, it just makes sense that it would help.  One thing is important to remember though, not all oils are equal, you definitely do not want to be using a fragrance oil posing as an essential oil if you have fragile lungs.  Stick with a reputable brand like doTERRA.  It’s always best to use one drop at a time and see how it works for you.

Once last tip, a lot of people also like to use the Easy Air blend at bedtime in the diffuser and on their chest to improve breathing while sleeping, making it so they have a better rest.
